This is one of my very favorite films.
Yekaterina Golubeva, plays Lithuanian actress Daiga, who come to Paris to collect on the promise of a director she slept with. He lied to her and now she, who speaks no French, gets a job as a chambermaid.
In parallel, there is a story of Caribbean family who also immigrated to France. The Older brother (Theo) is a musician, plays violin in the club and takes small carpentry jobs to support his child. The younger brother (Camille) is homosexual, dressed in his fishnet stockings and garish makeup, he sings at the local gay club.
The two plots occasionally come together, only by Daiga's view. She is the only one who notices Camille is the serial killer before he was arrested. There is still a odd distance between the two stories.
The scene that Camille danced solo to the tune of Jean-Louis Murat's Le Lein DeFait, is surely one of the most unforgettable scenes in the film.
This film is about outsiders -- outside of country, outside of culture -- social loners.
